KEA ISLAND, GREECE

Kea, also known as Tzia, is a picturesque island of the Cyclades in the Aegean sea. Its close proximity to Athens has made it a popular destination and a yachting escape for those looking for exceptional unspoiled semi secluded beaches, remote coves and blue-turquoise crystal clear waters. The island is also a hiker’s paradise with numbered routes that take you through a variety of landscapes to coves,  ruins of ancient cites, archaeological sites, windmills and ancient foot paths.

Kea is almost one hour by ferry from Athens but still feels much further away. The villages have preserved the local elements in various  expressions. The capital, Ioulis is built in an impressive natural amphitheater, offering superb views of the island and the sunset. The main square is a get together place, while the stone paved streets where cars are not allowed, create an ambience of serenity. The houses are surrounded by orchards and gardens and its architecture is simply unique, a mix of tiled roofs and Cycladic small white washed houses. In Ioulis you can enjoy the local cuisine in a number of taverns scattered around the upper area of town. The local summer cinema is a highlight, after a day exploring the island with the scent of summer jasmine swirling all around.

Following the paths that run from Ioulis to the south and east of the island, you go away from the bustle of the main beaches and towns and into small churches, ruins and beaches by way of inland fields valleys and lovely oak forests.

Kea is a unique Cycladic experience which celebrates the authenticity of the Greek Soul Beyond Spaces…
