Serifos takes you to scenic bays and impressive hillsides beyond spaces.

A small island in the Eastern Cyclades, Serifos has retained its authentic charm. Chora, the island’s capital, encompasses the Cycladic aesthetic with its small white-washed houses, restored windmills and narrow cobbled paths.

Built amphitheatrically on a hill, every step reveals a new delight, be it the neoclassical town hall, the ruins of a 15th century Venetian kastro, castle, or, once the summit is reached, the breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.

A great number of beautiful churches and chapels, including Agios Constantinos, Agios Athanasios, Agios Eleftherios and Evangelismos, blend in beautifully with the rocky landscape, adding to a certain sense of peacefulness and tranquility.

The picture changes during festivals and fairs, as every village has its own Patron Saint. In the Village of Panagia, celebrations for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary last for three days in August, while Kalo Ambeli hosts the festival of Metamorfosi tou Sotiros, Transfiguration of Our Saviour.

When it comes to culture, size does not exclude variety of choice, as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Folklore attest.

The island’s coastline boasts some of the more scenic bays and idyllic beaches in this side of the Aegean. Sand and pebbles combine to make Livadi and Livadakia two of the most popular spots, both located in close distance to Livadi, the port town of Serifos. Close by, Psili Ammos, Lia and Agios Sostis spoil for choice, while Agios Ioannis is renowned for its sandy beach. On the western side, Megalo Livadi, an old mining town in a long bay, makes for quite a striking setting. The popular tamarisk-lined Koutalas Beach and its neighbours Vagia and Ganema are worth a visit. At the end of a long day under the sun, there is always a restaurant right on the waterfront serving local food, ‘loutza’ – sun baked pork, ‘revithada’ - baked chickpeas, ‘marathotiganites’ – fried fennel cakes, and dried tomatoes.

Serifos encapsulates the Greek summer. Dance in a festival, swim in one of the quaint coves, enjoy the breeze in your face. Then return to one of the Beyond Spaces villas, where more beauty and new experiences await you.
